But if I haven't heard of them shouldn't it be "Don't know" instead of "no"????? Since technically I don't know who they are!

Just a suggestion T~L.

ABBA. Late 1970's till 1980's (maybe even 1990's I can't remember) You Must have heard the songs........doesn't matter. Is 70's and 80's music retro?

Or does retro apply to older stuff, 40s, 50's, 60's?

I think Abba is very retro. Even though a couple of the posters here were mean and rude to me yesterday about this topic, I still have a point of view on this.

DANCING DWEEB

You can't dance, you don't mind
Laughing as high as a kite
Do that twirl, watch that drink,
Check out the dancing dweeb...

Bide your time till the lights are low
Holding out for a pace that's slow
When they play the light music
Take another drink
You start to feel like a Queen

Now you no longer feel uptight
Right or wrong, all the music's high..
With a bit of shlock muzak
A drink or maybe nine
You're in a groove, you'll dance
And then you take a chance...

You are the dancing dweeb
Drunk on drink number seventeen
Dancing dweeb, feel the beat
As you split your jeans, Oh YEAH!
You can't dance, you don't mind
Laughing and try as you might
Ooooh oohh..
Do that twirl, botch that beat
Go figure, the dancing dweeb...

Down a teaser, you turn it on
Everyone scurry's and then they're...

Gooooonee......
Looking out for a partner, any shmuck will do
Loaded with booze, you'll dance
And then you take your chance...

You are the dancing dweeb,
Drunk on cheap, single malt whiskey,
Dancing dweeb, feel the beat
As you split your jeans
OH YEAAAH!

You can't dance, you're all jive
Laughing, and high as a kite
OOOOh ooohhh...
Do that twirl, botch that beat
Go figure, the dancing dweeb

Oh, you can't dance, still you try
Laughing, and high as a kite
Ooohh ooohh...
See that girl, watch that scene,
Go figure, the dancing dweeb...
Go figure, the dancing dweeb...
Go figure, the dancing dweeb...
Go figure, the dancing dweeb...
Go figure, the dancing dweeb.....

- ET Girl

Original Abba Lyrics - Dancing Queen

You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king

Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music’s high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You’re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen

You’re a teaser, you turn ’em on
Leave them burning and then you’re gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You’re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen
Dig in the dancing queen
Dig in the dancing queen
Dig in the dancing queen
Dig in the dancing queen
Dig in the dancing queen

Pay no attention.  Some of our more seasoned posters don't want to face the fact that what they listened to in their teens and twenties is now considered RETRO!!   :D   :D :D

Tongue in cheek humour, eh?

Well, all I can say is this. (And I'm being sincere here......touch the screen and feel the warmth of my sincerity! )

Having considered this at great length (5.6Km) It is my newly formed opinion that:

"Retro" is anything that is 50 years older than you are - whoever you are and whatever age you happen to be at this time.  OK OK I'll haggle on the 50!

SO there. Now, In your opinion how old does a thing need to be to be retro? 2 years? 5? 10? Like I said before, I consider Dansette Mono record players, chrome plated car bumpers, Teddy Boys & Hula Hoops to be retro. Things of that era.
And I generally find that things which are called retro have all come back into fashion so although the idea may be old - these things are bang up to date! The latest fad! The thing to have! In other words... new ........and yet old!

So it's all a load of b*llocks!

I'm off to listen to my ABBA LP* on my gramophone** then later I might switch on the wireless*** or watch a videotape****.

*Album
**Stereo
***Radio
****Old fashioned DVD.

Have you seen the 1975 promo-video that accompanies the song 'SOS'?.
That is truly 70s retro. It shows ABBA in some swedish park jumping about in the sunlight, all very luvvy-duvey & romantic;but extremely 1970s!.
I was a schoolboy in the 1970s & I remember watching:'Top Of The Pops' wherein  ABBA always seemed to be at number one!.

I like 'Thankyou for The Music' too.I have seen the ABBA tribute band 'Bjorn Again' performing at the Hippordrome, about 15 years ago. They're a good take off on ABBA. :D

What's your favourite ABBA track/single?.....................

Mine would be: 'Thankyou For The Music' because It seems to have very meaningful lyrics & it's rather sentimental.

(FFA starts singing....................... :sleepy:)
