What's in a Name?

Nicknames..

Postby Wytch » 09 Mar 05, 3:37 am

Most of us use nicknames or chatnames right.

I heard a funny story about how a guy in a chatroom got his.. so now I'm wondering how you all came about yours.

Mine's not too interesting. I'm a pagan, and don't like to be one of the crowd.. hence Wytch.. making use of the forgotten vowel.

Mine comes from a fantasy baseball team I had several years ago.... There was already a team called the White Sox (Chicago) and the Red Sox (Boston) and the Black Sox (baseball scandal in 1919) so naturally, that left the Argyle Sox. Even had a very cool logo for the front of the ball cap.... a nice argyle sock with the big toe sticking through a hole........

Postby Sting » 09 Mar 05, 11:46 am

Quercus gave me the name Sting. Its the name of the sword that Frodo carries in his adventures in the Lord of the Rings Books/Movies. My avatar used to be the sword, however, the LotR is over and I thought I would move on to something different.

In the UK Terry's tend to get called Tel. There is also a well known TV character there called Delboy hence .. Telboy ... unfortunately the "boy" is not entirely accurate ...

I came up with this name while playing chess...

I didn't want to use my real name in the online chess game, so I thought for a while before coming to this one.

Khaizer, the first part, is pronounced in the way it is written--Gutteral "Kh".

Well, Rex is just Rex.

The pronunciation of the first part is the same or very similar to how one pronounces "Caesar" as in "Julius Caesar."

Rex means King.

Somewhere in the past I wrote that I'm King King, or maybe I wrote I'm two kings... That's what I meant.

I'm aggressive on the chess board, and that name does really fit me. I've stuck to it since.
I live in your head, I can be found in your dreams. Rest peacefully, I will guard over you.

I've loved trees ever since I was a little girl. My favorite is the Oak. Quercus is the Latin genus term for Oak.
