I do not understand this. Others have said, "bla, bla, yada, cripes, you're dumb"...but I still don't see how it works.

I've seen it countless times, and it may have been on here, but stupid as I am, how would I know?

Well, a bit of math will show that only so many numbers will come out of these calculations that the little rodent-esque creature asks you to do. So all of those possible outcomes are always the same with each other during each turn, not always staying the same. So it looks like you're actually changing the number and the sign, but in all reality, the same number possible is always a pre-chosen sign... Blah... not too much in terms of fooling people, but a bit of fun to pretend that he can mindread a little bit...
