Some strange driving laws ...

Ten weird international driving rules
• In Finland, taxi drivers have to pay royalty fees to the Finnish Copyright Society in order to use their car radios with passengers inside.
• Australian taxi drivers are required to carry a bale of hay in their trunks.
• If you own a car in Switzerland, you are not allowed to wash it on Sundays.
• If you're driving in Manila and your license plate ends in the number one or two, you cannot drive in the city on Mondays from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Beware when driving in Bangkok because most of the one-way roads change direction during certain hours of the day.
• In Belgium, drivers turning left through oncoming traffic have the right of way, unless he/she slows down or stops.
• When driving in Denmark, if a horse drawn carriage is trying to pass you and the horse becomes uncomfortable, you must pull over.
• You may not ride a streetcar on Sundays in Toronto if you've been eating garlic.
• If you stop at pedestrian crossings in China, you will be fined or receive a warning.
• If you're driving on the German Autobahn, make sure you have enough gas. It's illegal to run out of it.

Ten weird national driving rules
• It's illegal to jump from a car traveling at 65 mph in California.
• If you are passing another car from the left in Ohio, you must honk your horn.
• You may not leave a sheep unattended in the cab of your truck in Montana.
• Shooting game from a moving vehicle in Tennessee is prohibited; however, it is perfectly legal to shoot a whale.
• A great way to earn 30 days in jail for a misdemeanor in Derby, Kansas is to screech your tires.
• Swearing in your vehicle is strictly prohibited when driving through Rockville, Maryland.
• It's illegal for your vehicle to leave dirt or sticky substances on any road in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
• If you're driving on the sidewalk in Oregon, you must yield to pedestrians.
• You may not drive while blindfolded in Alabama.
• When driving along country roads at night in Pennsylvania, you must stop and send up a rocket signal every mile, then wait 10 minutes. This is to ensure the road has been cleared of livestock.

Most expensive speeding tickets
While the strange driving laws listed above are sure to land you a fine, the most expensive tickets are usually the result of speeding. According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the record for the most expensive speeding ticket currently belongs to Anssi Vanjoki, a senior executive a Nokia. Vanjoki was caught driving his Harley-Davidson motorbike at 75 km./h (47 mph) in a 50km./h (31 mph) zone in Helsinki. In a system that determines speeding ticket penalties using your current annual income, Vanjoki was ordered to pay a fine of $103,600.

Canada recently introduced a 10,000 Canadian dollar ($9,305) fine for driving 31 mph over the speed limit. The reasoning behind this high figure is that such speeds trigger street racing penalties.

Some states in the U.S. are known for their expensive speeding tickets as well. According to Forbes, the 10 worst offenders are Virginia, Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Utah, Oregon, Kansas and Maryland.

If you stop at pedestrian crossings in China, you will be fined or receive a warning.

What are they trying to do..lower the population
It's illegal to jump from a car traveling at 65 mph in California.

You'll only try that once :lmao:

Weird Canadian Driving Laws and Other Strange Rules of the Road

Let’s face it; lawmakers sometimes come up with some strange rules for us to obey. In all fairness though, often these weird laws that are still on the books are from the past where they were clearly necessary even though they are no longer relevant today. With others though, it’s harder to imagine what incidents would have precipitated the need for such laws. For example, in Alabama, it is illegal for a driver to be blindfolded while operating a vehicle. Was this a big enough problem that they had to enact a statute to correct it? Whatever the reason, when you’re driving in Alabama, be sure to take your blindfold off!

Although there are some strange laws in the U.S., Canada is not exempt and has also enacted some weird rules of the road. The following is a sampling of some of the strangest driving laws Canada has, so next time you’re out on the road, you can be sure you’re following all of the rules!

1.) Montreal is a beautiful city, but it’s also a place that’s quite strict about what you can and can’t do with your car. For example, for sale signs are not permitted in the windows of moving vehicles. So, if you’re selling your car, be sure to take the sign down before you turn the keys.

In addition, Montreal seems to have a number of different laws regarding the rules of parking including:

• You may not park a car in such a way that it is blocking your own driveway. (Your OWN driveway!)
• If you have parked your car in the street (not in front of your driveway, of course), you can forget about washing it because it’s illegal to do so.
• Cars parked in public places must be locked, and their windows must be down to less than the width of a hand. (This one boggles the mind a little. What if it rains or snows, do people in Montreal just deal with wet interiors?

Of course, the strangest law that Quebec has is that you aren’t allowed to turn right on a red light. Since it’s expected and legal to turn right in Ontario, those travelers going into Quebec would do well to remember this law unless they want a ticket.

2.) In Ontario, the average speed limit for cars on most roads is 80 km/hour, but bicycles have the right of way. Those bicycles have to be fast!

Because a lot of the laws in Ontario are from the past, some of them have to do with driving non-motorized forms or are about more public forms of transportation. Because they have something to do with the roads on which you drive, we still thought they were worth including.

• If you decide to ride a one-horse-open-sleigh on the highway, make sure that two bells are attached to either the sleigh or the harness. No bells or one bell could earn you a $5 fine.
• In Toronto, it’s illegal to ride a streetcar on Sunday if you’ve been eating garlic. No need to throw away the garlic for good though, just save it until Monday.

3.) The strangest provincial law regarding the road has to come from New Brunswick. To break the law in this Atlantic province, you simply need to drive on the road. Apparently, the streets in New Brunswick are not meant for driving on.

Some of these weird statutes make it hard for us to obey the law, because they’re pretty obscure. However, ignorance of the law isn’t an excuse for breaking it, so now that you know, while you’re in New Brunswick you’ll have to either drive in the fields or start walking!

:screwy: "You may not ride a streetcar on Sundays in Toronto if you've been eating garlic."

Having lived in Toronto, I can well see that. We were packed like sardines. Now, can you imagine being in a streetcar, again packed like sardines, standing up and holding the hand rail, in the middle of a heat wave, 4 pm, only to find your nose inches away from a huge woman's sleeveless armpit?
I'll take the sardines any day!

Be careful about Jonesing for a Bavarian Cream while in South Berwick, Maine. You’ll be ticketed if you park in front of Dunkin Donuts.

Well obviously. You are parking in a zone restricted for Police parking only. :lmao:
