We had a similar tree thingy in Dublin on Trees rd (would you believe it). It was preserved or had a leave it alone court order on it, after being hit by several cars if caught some disease and was deemed unsafe. After being there 50 years+ they hacked it down in a flash.
Im trying to think whats there now as it was a type of roundabout - no kerbing just a tree!

wouldn't be supprised to find its in california and the road moved into the trees path due to the sa fault, seen that happen

we got a street a few blocks away with a tree in the middle of the road they built the houses around it and put kerbing around too
