We are told we can't put our bags out before 7.00am on the day of collection. There is no way I am getting up that early so it goes out the night before. Anyway, the binmen are usually here by about 7.15, so it doesn't give you much of a window.

Everyone here puts theirs out the night before. I have steps leading down to my house, so I leave my recycling bin up on the pavement all the time because it is painful for me to drag it up and down and the dustmen don't do that any more. My neighbour sometimes decides to be 'helpful' and bring it down for me!
