David Blaine

Drowned Alive -  I've been watching his progress as well as his wrinkling skin..blargh. I know this guy is a nutter but this one I have to see. 9 minutes underwater no oxygen while in handcuffs.

May 2, 2006 — Magician David Blaine has been buried alive for seven days, frozen for 61 hours, perched 90 feet up on a pole for 35 hours, and suspended for 44 days.

Now, he has been submerged in a human aquarium and plans to stay there for a week.

"My system is completely empty," he said before being submerged. "So that way in the sphere I don't have to use the bathroom. I have a catheter in case I have to do No. 1, but I don't intend on doing anything else."

To prepare for his weeklong stay in 2,000 gallons of 96-degree saltwater, Blaine underwent grueling training with the Navy SEALs and oxygen deprivation while diving with stingrays.

"What was amazing about the Navy SEALs — a lot of their training, although it is physical, is more about the mental and spiritual part," said Blaine, 33. "They talk about overriding the pain in your body by finding something to take you away from it."

Defying Death

If he survives his seven-day endurance test, Blaine will handcuff himself to 150 pounds of chain and then remove his breathing apparatus. He hopes to break the world record of almost nine minutes without breathing. The stunt will be broadcast on ABC on May 8.

"I'll have to escape from all these chains, and if not I will drown and the world will see something pretty insane," he said.

Blaine said he had lost 50 pounds while practicing holding his breath.

"I would wake up and hold my breath for 48 minutes out of the course of every hour," he said. "I'd breathe for a minute, hold my breath for five minutes immediately after, and then right after that, breathe a minute, hold for six minutes and keep going for all the way up to an hour. In that process, your CO2 levels become so high, your body has to work like a marathon runner to get rid of it."

The final escape will be the difficult part, and Blaine has been relaxing in his fish tank, which sits outside Lincoln Center in Manhattan, N.Y., where pedestrians can view him. Blaine, who is 6-foot-1, appears about 33 percent larger because of the way the spherical tank refracts the light.

He said he would beat the record or die.

He did neither and tons of people stood around all week for that.

The guys a knob-end.

Question is "Why?"

Probably the same people who sit up all through the night watching the Big Brother contestants sleeping.
Just as well it was a free "show".

I agree with Jimbola......he's an absolute spanner!

(Blaine......not jim..... )

Thing that bothers me is that this isn't magic. He's a magician...where's the fucking card tricks I ask you?

Have you read his autobiography? Very interesting. He's a really intelligent guy and just wants to push his body to it's absolute limits. I wouldn't want to be his doctor, that's for sure

If God had intended for a human to stay underwater for a week, He'd have given us gills.

He should run a marathon then.

Or two marathons, one after the other and for charity - that way he pushes himself to the absolute limits and some needy folk get the benefit.

There's no "WOW!" factor like there was with, say, Houdini where at least you were left wondering how he escaped or whatever. There was a trick, mystery, entertainment.
What have we here? A guy up a pole. A guy in a glass box hanging from a crane. Not doing anything at all, just.......there.

Like Lynnie said, Magician? Where's the card tricks, the bunny in a hat, the coloured hankies....the showmanship?

I'm not approving of what he does. I know I smoke and abuse my body in that way, but to do what he doesI think is crazy, but I did find his autobiography interesting.

okay, this is probably completely off topic by now, or been said before... (i'v e drunk too much whisky to actually be bothered to read rest of thread)

but does anybody still care what david blaine does? actually, i take it back, people do care, but what i mean is, does anybody care in the way he thinks we care? I.e. does anyone still car ein a "wow, what a man" kind of way, as opposed to "wow, what a knobhead" kind of way i think about him.

seriously, the man is one majour douchbag.

oh, and that stunt where he would "break the record or drown" (say that really slowly and monotously, and you'll sound just like him!). well, he chickened out. rescued. pah.

No, don't want him either. But even he would be preferable to Daniel's and McHeave.
I'd rather have Harry or David Corbett, even though have both had their hands up Sooty's bum
