Yeah, I never liked the idea that games lead to violence. Good thing this is written by a MIT professor. :)

I couldn't agree more with this report. Games are often used as a convenient scapegoat. A case of people attacking something that they don't understand. The majority of non-gaming adults still believe that gaming is aimed at children. This used to be the case, but now gaming is far more geared towards an adult audience.

An increasing number of games are given 18 certificates, which would mean that they are for adults and not children. The media then goes crazy over these games, such as Manhunt and blames the children's behaviour or actions on the games that are only meant for adults. The media attention only seems to have the opposite affect anyway, I bought Manhunt just to see what it was like after all the ridiculous newspaper reports. Having played this "evil" game I haven't suddenly become a raving lunatic or anything, I'm just the same person I always was.

I've been playing games, since, forever. I love them all and I'll still be playing until the day I die. I've made loads of new friends all over the world from playing games and I think its great that more and more women are now getting interested in gaming. Finally, the games industry has stopped patronising female gamers with their awful "made for girls" games. I hope to see more women entering the games industry in the future too.

If you never thought about playing games before, maybe now its time to try some out and find out what its all about for yourselves, instead of reading those newspaper reports that do gaming no favours.
