The memo indicates that CLGC would research who has contributed financial backing to OWS

I'm waiting for armed citizens at these protests to begin "popping caps" in a few police. Don't think it can't happen. :?

They are a rag tag group - but so were the first protesters that fought British rule ( Not meant as country bashing)

It was also reported that cops were encouraging homeless people to join the protesters in order to deplete their resources.

If their goal is to stop political corruption, then I'm all for that.

Political corruption is their main target and I hope they don't get sidetracked

NYPD cop pushes New York Supreme Court Judge into wall

I was there to take down the names of people who were arrested… As I’m standing there, some African-American woman goes up to a police officer and says, ‘I need to get in. My daughter’s there. I want to know if she’s OK.’ And he said, ‘Move on, lady.’ And they kept pushing with their sticks, pushing back. And she was crying. And all of a sudden, out of nowhere, he throws her to the ground and starts hitting her in the head,” says Smith. “I walk over, and I say, ‘Look, cuff her if she’s done something, but you don’t need to do that.’ And he said, ‘Lady, do you want to get arrested?’ And I said, ‘Do you see my hat? I’m here as a legal observer.’ He said, ‘You want to get arrested?’ And he pushed me up against the wall.

Guess who gets to walk a beat for the next 20 years? :lmao:

another interesting comment from the wires

What was meant to be a protest against economic equality is quickly morphing into a protest against the police state.

Faculty and students outraged over police behavior

When students covered their eyes with their clothing, police forced open their mouths and pepper-sprayed down their throats. Several of these students were hospitalized. Others are seriously injured. One of them, forty-five minutes after being pepper-sprayed down his throat, was still coughing up blood

And they have the nerve to condemn what is happening in Syria? Okay, they aren't carrying out mass killing of the protesters ... yet!

So, when you connect the dots, properly understood, what happened this week is the first battle in a civil war; a civil war in which, for now, only one side is choosing violence.

If the #1 demand is to get rid of the lobbyists, then I think most people can agree with that.

As for the violence that's a bit worrying

oh I agree with some of the demands, but some are unrealistic, to the point where it hurts their cause.
the violence, yeah its scary and while a lot of it is legit compliants and abuse of power, I also know how the media spins things to their way of thinking, like the pic of the cop on the motorcyclew riding over a protestor was repordtedly staged, he had the photographer watching and laid down in front of the bike, there is also a lot of talk about anarchists and etc coming in just for the confrontations

The No 1 agenda item: get the money out of politics. Most often cited was legislation to blunt the effect of the Citizens United ruling, which lets boundless sums enter the campaign process.

No 2: reform the banking system to prevent fraud and manipulation, with the most frequent item being to restore the Glass-Steagall Act – the Depression-era law, done away with by President Clinton, that separates investment banks from commercial banks. This law would correct the conditions for the recent crisis, as investment banks could not take risks for profit that create derivatives out of thin air, and wipe out the commercial and savings banks.

No 3 was the most clarifying: draft laws against the little-known loophole that currently allows members of Congress to pass legislation affecting Delaware-based corporations in which they themselves are investors.

Anything else is just fringe groups trying to join the parade.

Kind of like when the NAZI party and the KKK wanted to try to join the tea party. Sure a few liberal media outlets played it up, but they were never part of the tea party movement.

It's hard to get the truth these days - I miss Walter Cronkite and ethics in media.

Some one pointed this out to me the other day.

The Tea party movement and the Occupy Wall Street movement have one thing in common; they are both anti-government corruption movements.

I realize that to some my posts look pro-democrat, to others they look pro-republican they are neither.

For all the damage Bush did keep in mind it was Clinton who repealed Glass-Steagal which lead us tho the mess we are facing. (he also started NAFTA to move US factories to Mexico, and courted China to move factories to China).

interesting, I don't think it exonerates the cop, but still not quite as cut and dried as it seems

yep and the OWS has far more arrests for things other than just protesting, like assualts, theft, rape but the media is far more sympathetic to them vs tea party and you're correct on Clinton. back when they were pushing Nafta, I kept looking at it thinking this can't be good for us, but all the living ex presidents was for it, all the economists liked it, so I thought well they should know more about this than me, so I shut up, evidently the dumbass redneck from NC knew more than they did, go figure

in retrospect tho, I should have known that anything Jimmy Carter supported, I should be against lol

Here you go - this will make you feel better about Wall Street Bankers - http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-11-2 ... ncome.html

$7.77 Trillion

The amount of money the central bank parceled out was surprising even to Gary H. Stern, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis from 1985 to 2009, who says he “wasn’t aware of the magnitude.” It dwarfed the Treasury Department’s better-known $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP. Add up guarantees and lending limits, and the Fed had committed $7.77 trillion as of March 2009 to rescuing the financial system, more than half the value of everything produced in the U.S. that year.

“TARP at least had some strings attached,” says Brad Miller, a North Carolina Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, referring to the program’s executive-pay ceiling. “With the Fed programs, there was nothing.”

“This is an issue that can unite the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street. There are lawmakers in both parties who would change their votes now.”
