Obama signs Internet censorship bill

Obama saying that he would not support censorship was deceit at its finest. Many in the Internet community feel like they have been blindsided.

The oddity was over the fact that the President just signed ACTA a few months ago. What struck us as a more interesting question was the serious constitutional questions of whether or not Obama is even allowed to sign ACTA. - http://www.techdirt.com/articles/201201 ... tion.shtml

1.The French MEP resigned his position of negotiating the international Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (Acta) says it "goes too far"
2. Cuts access to generic versions of drugs for treating illnesses - could cost lives. ACTA treats a generic drug just as a counterfeited drug.
3. Someone crossing a border who has a single song or film on their computer could face criminal charges.
4. Makes ISPs, who provide internet access, liable for users' illicit file-sharing.

Exact ACTA terms have been withheld while bullet points and a synopsis have been released to the public.
Below is the response to the freedom of information act request.

I regret that the draft negotiating texts you have requested are also
withheld as they are exempt under sections 35(1)(a) (formulation of
Government policy) and 27(2) (international relations) of the Freedom of
Information Act.

FOI requests determine that the ACTA negotiation documents cannot be released due to "obligations of confidence".

In summary, ACTA negotiations have NOT been transparent nor are all documents available to the public.

Sometimes, I am embarrassed to admit I live in the USA.

That doesn't mean that I don't support the troops who haven't sacrified themselves to protect our freedom!!

On second thought....... :wtf:
