Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina had seen its bad debt creep up in recent years as more patients saw out of pocket expenses soar, with some deductibles reaching $15,000.

“We’ve seen that many patients are unaware of the increases in their deductibles,” said CFO Chad Eckes. Wake Forest now asks for payment before non-emergency services are provided

Some will say The ACA caused this. They don't remember that healthcare was unaffordable prior to the ACA and was the reason Obamacare was created. Looking in at a graph of the increase in health care costs, it appears the ACA made no difference in costs one way or the other, although it did throw people a safty line. While that is bad news for those who claimed the AC would lower costs - it also disproves the claim that the ACA caused costs to go up.
