NOAA’s powerful new supercomputers paved the way for another upgrade to the U.S. Global Forecast System (GFS), NOAA’s primary model for weather prediction. - http://www.noaa.gov/noaa%E2%80%99s-prem ... imensional

For years now European weather models have been better at predicting storms due to faster computers and up to date weather data reflecting changes in climate patterns. - http://www.scientificamerican.com/artic ... g-storms1/

Hopefully, weather forecasts will become a lot more accurate thanks to a massive new upgrade to the digital models used by the NOAA.

The new upgrade works in 4D, taking into account how weather systems evolve on a 3D spatial grid over time, with time now becoming the fourth dimension.

Forecasters expect the new model to dramatically improve the accuracy of their forecasts, and allow them to see hourly forecasts for up to five days.
