don't install any web-based anti-virus software

The attack continues to rampage across the Internet, and currently doesn't show any signs of slowing down. So don't install any web-based anti-virus software that claims your computer is full of bugs.

I had THAT! :cussing:
We closed last week for our yearly vacation (if one could call it that...) Moved my PC upstairs so that the person that slept here at night could at-least have i-net access. Came back last Sunday (pre-warned) with that thing on my PC :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: Sat from 8pm to 12pm (after I drove 200km mostly in rain) until I gave up.5am I was awake and I just knew what to do, seeing as everything I read on the i-net the previous night didn't work. But 6am that mother-****** WAS GONE!
and I don't even have a credit-card anyway!
In remembrance.

It's a ruff on the net these days. With corporate info gatherers, spammers, hackers, malware, Trojans and Phishing, no one should be running without antivirus and a fire wall.

If a web site says you are infected, close the site - update your antivirus - and run a scan - Never use their service!

Alternatively you can visit one of these Legit Anti-virus for a free scan
Eset - http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner
Trend micro - http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Symantec - http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home ... arent=true
Kaspersky - http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Bit Defender - http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html

If a web site says you need an add-on to view content I recommend closing the page and going to the source of the add-on.

For example
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp ( will also check to see if you have the latest updates)
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
http://www.update.microsoft.com/windows ... aspx?ln=en
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/update/
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/

If you regularly travel in a bad neighborhood try this http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?DownloadSandboxie (skip the brothersoft download and download from sandboxie)

Last year, both my laptops got infected by the same virus which told me I had to get their anti-virus software. I couldn't do anything, get online to any other site, open pages, clear it out ... nothing. In the end, I took them to my friendly local computer wizard who cleared them both for me but said that he had had several computers brought in with the same virus. I have always run scans on a regular basis but had never had an anti-virus running in the background. I do now!
