The soccer game may not have been of the highest quality, but what it lacked in quality was more than made up for in enthusiasm.
This was a match, organized by chat room and put on as a morale booster. The media looking a good story, and a break from the training camps attended the event heavily.
In the end Austria went on to win the match, which they hoped would be a morale booster for their team playing in euro 2008.
"I hope our men will take heart for tomorrow. We played pretty hard, we even suffered a few injuries, like I for example, broke my toe nail," 29-year-old bank employee Doris Fastenmeir said.
The Germans accepted defeat sportingly, and even joined their opponents for drinks and dancing at a beach club in a beautiful spot alongside the Danube.
German keeper Jana Bach commenting on the game said, "I was supposed to hold the balls but I really have no idea how to do that," which got a few chuckles.
She quickly added, "Maybe it is because I am not all that much into soccer. I am more into shoes to be honest."
So what did the onlookers think? It was hard to find anyone who didn't enjoy the game, but a few mentioned that
"They might have to work on their technique a bit". It was definitely a pleasant game to watch," added Rolf Hansen from Berlin.
