Winds that gusted up to 100kph (62 mph) that blew competitors off their bikes have forced the cancellation of the International Road Race in South Africa.
The mayhem began at the start of the race near the city’s shore where cyclists encountered gusts so strong that they struggled just to hold onto their bikes. Video on social media shows riders being knocked off their bikes, and onlookers unable to walk upright because of the wind.
The race, in which 35,000 people were taking part, was cancelled at 21km mark after officials consider the conditions too dangerous to continue..
