This video brings us up to date on the enormous kinetic sculptures called strandbeests - "beach animals" in Dutch, that capture the imagination with their eerily lifelike motion. Surprisingly, the strand beasts are constructed largely of PVC tubing, and equipped with sensors to allow for an ever-evolving survival strategie. These amazing creatures wandering the windblown beaches are a combination of art, engineering, mechanics, and biology.
